Cat Rescue From Trees and High Places
This service is specifically for a cat physically stranded in a tree, on a roof or in another difficult elevated location. Hardfell is an arborist and tree-access company, not an adoption, rehoming or stray-cat organisation.
If your cat is high above the ground, has been unable to come down or is in a tree that cannot be safely reached with an ordinary ladder, an experienced climbing arborist may be the right person to call.

How an Arborist Cat Rescue Works
Assess the cat and tree
We check the height, tree structure, access, nearby hazards and the safest route through the canopy.
Climb using professional ropes
A trained arborist installs a climbing system and approaches carefully to avoid frightening the cat farther out or higher up.
Secure and return the cat
Once safely reached, the cat is secured and brought or lowered back to the ground for a relieved reunion.
What Should You Do While the Cat Is Stuck?
- Keep dogs, crowds and unnecessary noise away
- Speak calmly from the ground
- Place familiar food nearby if it can be done safely
- Keep track of how long the cat has been there
- Take clear photos for the responding arborist
- Call sooner if the cat is injured, distressed or exposed to bad weather

Danny’s Kānuka Tree Adventure
Danny chose the top of a kānuka tree in an Auckland council reserve as a place to hang out. After Hardfell was tagged in a local Facebook post, Shaun attended, climbed the tree, secured Danny and brought him safely back to the ground.
Safely reunited
Danny’s owner, Chloe, had been trying to get him down and was understandably relieved to have him safely back. When she asked what the rescue cost, the answer was the same as usual: Hardfell does not normally charge for cat rescues.
We would much rather see anyone who wants to contribute make a donation to an animal charity.

Our rescue fee is usually a donation elsewhere
In most cases, Hardfell does not charge for rescuing a cat from a tree. Instead, we ask owners who are able to contribute to support an animal-related charity such as Paws Restart Animal Rescue, based in Kumeū, or SPCA New Zealand.
This is an invitation, not a condition of rescue. Our priority is helping get the cat safely back to the ground.

Who should I call for a cat stuck in a tree in Auckland?
When a cat is beyond safe ladder reach, a qualified climbing arborist is often the right person to call. Hardfell provides 24/7 cat rescue from trees and other elevated locations across Auckland.
How long should I wait before calling for help?
Some cats come down when the area becomes quiet, but you do not need to wait for days if the cat is very high, distressed, injured, exposed to severe weather or unable to find a safe route down. Send us photos and we can help assess the situation.
Do you charge for cat rescue?
In most cases, Hardfell does not charge for the rescue. We ask owners who wish to contribute to consider donating to an animal charity such as Paws Restart or SPCA New Zealand.
Can you rescue a cat at night?
Yes. Cat rescue callouts are available 24/7, subject to crew availability, tree condition, access and whether the rescue can be completed safely in the conditions.
Can an arborist rescue a cat from a very tall tree?
Potentially. Arborists routinely use rope-access systems to work in tall trees. We assess the tree, suitable anchor points, the cat’s location and hazards below before deciding whether a safe rescue is practical.
Do you rescue cats from roofs or other high places?
We may be able to help when a cat is stranded on a roof, structure or other difficult elevated location. Send photos and the address so we can assess access and safety.
Can you help with adoption, rehoming or a stray cat?
No. Hardfell’s service is specifically for physically stranded cats requiring professional climbing or rope access. For adoption, rehoming, injured strays or animal-welfare concerns, contact an appropriate animal rescue or SPCA.
What if the tree is near power lines?
Keep clear and do not attempt a ladder or pole rescue. Contact the relevant electricity network operator and tell us about the lines when you send the rescue details. We will not climb inside an unsafe electrical zone.
