Professional Drone Retrieval From Trees

Drones have a habit of finding the tallest, thinnest and most awkward part of a tree. Once they are above ladder height, getting them back becomes a tree-access job rather than a simple reach-and-grab.

Hardfell’s arborists climb and work in difficult trees every day. We can assess the tree, surrounding hazards and access before deciding whether a safe recovery is practical.

What to send us

  • A clear photo of the tree and drone
  • The address or location
  • Your estimate of the height
  • Any access issues or nearby hazards
  • Confirmation you can authorise access

What we assess

  • Tree condition and suitable access
  • Buildings, roads and public areas
  • Power lines and electrical hazards
  • How securely the drone is caught
  • The most suitable climbing system

What happens next

We review the information, ask any necessary questions and let you know the safest next step. Cost depends on height, location, access, hazards and the time required.

How We Get a Drone Out of a Tree

1

Assess the site

We check the tree, access route and anything below or around the working area.

2

Climb using rope systems

Where appropriate, an arborist accesses the canopy using professional climbing and rope-access techniques.

3

Recover and lower it

We carefully free the drone and bring or lower it back to the ground. We cannot guarantee an already-damaged drone will still operate.

Why Call an Arborist?

Qualified arborists understand how trees move, where branches may be weak and how to establish safe climbing systems. That matters when a drone is caught high in a thin outer canopy or above something that cannot be damaged.

  • Experienced in tall and difficult tree access
  • Professional climbing and rope equipment
  • Site and tree risk assessment
  • NZARB Registered Master Arborist company
  • Insured Auckland tree-service business

Our wider work includes professional tree services across Auckland, technical tree removal and emergency tree work.

Real Drone Rescues by Hardfell Arborists

These are genuine Hardfell recovery jobs. Some drones are wedged firmly between branches. Others are sitting high in the canopy with very little safe access around them. Every tree needs its own plan.

Recent North Shore rescue

Mairangi Bay Drone Rescue: High in a Norfolk Pine

A drone owner in Mairangi Bay contacted Hardfell after their drone became lodged high in a Norfolk pine. The owner sent us a photo showing where it was caught, which allowed us to assess the tree and provide an initial price before attending.

Shaun then climbed the Norfolk pine using professional arborist rope-access equipment and safely brought the drone back to the ground. It was a very awkward landing spot, but a good result for the owner – and far safer than trying to reach it with a ladder or pole.

Drone rescue across Auckland

We help with drone retrieval on the North Shore, in West Auckland, Rodney, central Auckland and local areas including Riverhead, Kumeū, Coatesville, Waimauku and Whenuapai. Access and travel time are assessed for each enquiry.

Drone Rescue Questions

Who can retrieve a drone stuck in a tree in Auckland?

A qualified climbing arborist is often the right person when a drone is high in a tree or beyond safe ladder reach. Hardfell provides drone rescue and retrieval across Auckland, subject to tree condition, access and surrounding hazards.

Can an arborist get a drone out of a tree?

Yes, arborists use climbing ropes and canopy-access techniques as part of their normal tree work. We assess whether the tree can be climbed safely and how the drone can be freed without creating unnecessary risk.

How much does drone retrieval cost?

Drone retrieval generally ranges from $150 to $550 excluding GST, depending on the height, tree access, surrounding hazards and overall level of difficulty. Send us a photo, the address and an estimated height so we can assess the job and confirm the price.

Can you retrieve a drone from a very tall tree?

Potentially. Our arborists regularly work in tall and difficult trees, but every recovery depends on the tree’s condition, suitable anchor points, access and hazards below the drone.

Do you provide drone rescue on Auckland’s North Shore?

Yes. Hardfell responds to drone-retrieval enquiries on the North Shore as well as West Auckland, Rodney, central Auckland and other Auckland locations.

What should I send before calling?

Send a clear photo of the whole tree, a closer photo showing the drone if possible, the address, estimated height and any known hazards or access restrictions.

Can you retrieve a drone near power lines?

Power lines can make a recovery unsafe. Keep clear and do not use poles or throw objects near the lines. We assess the electrical hazard and will not work inside an unsafe zone.

Can you access a drone on someone else’s property?

We need permission from the relevant property owner before entering the site or climbing their tree. Please arrange approval before booking the recovery.
